AMELIA: 01

For WEEKS now, Lara has been in Amelia’s head. Poisoning her mind, she’s sure Dominguez would say. But she can’t help turning the girl’s words over in her mind, that Lara knows something about Amelia, that she needs to trust her. Truth be told, Amelia had been on the brink of leaving Trinity for some time, seeing how little Dominguez cared for all the soldiers lost in pursuit of some MAGIC treasure.

So she’d staged a PRETEND manhunt. Insisted she knew where Lara was, and brought no one with her. Face to face with Lara, without the chaos of a firefight around them, feels strange in a way Amelia CAN’T put her finger on.  She hesitantly lowers her gun, heart jumping into her throat as she expects to be shot immediately. But it doesn’t happen. The crackle of her walkie-talkie, and Dominguez barking inane orders at her reminds her they aren’t ENTIRELY alone yet, and she lifts the walkie talkie, tosses it in the air and shoots it before turning back to Lara. The Lara Croft. I’m listening. TALK.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐒. The walkie talkie blasted, the gun shot, the shell exploded, and through it all Lara’s eyes were seared on Amelia –– her sister. her sister. her sister. GOD. It didn’t feel real. But it felt right; like somehow, all along there was a part of her that had known. Doesn’t that sound entirely too cliche? But for a reason. For this very reason.

Had she met her on the street, would Lara have known her? Would she have stopped in place the way she was now and stared at those eyes, that face? It was hard to say.  You don’t have to do this. The gun, like hers, is set to the floor. She still has her arrows, slung across her back, silver tips saluting the sky –– but she makes no move towards them.  I don’t want to FIGHT you anymore. There is so much we don’t know about each other. We don’t have to hate each other, Amelia. Not like our parents. ”
